Gadens Lawyers, appointed Catherine Oates Smith as its Marketing and Business Development Manager in October, 2004 when it sought to strengthen its profile as a prominent player in the banking finance and property legal markets.
Prior to this appointment, Catherine worked as a solicitor in Sydney and London, specialising in corporate finance and insolvency. She was involved in a number of cross-border transactions in Australia and the liquidation of Robert Maxwell’s company in the UK.
Catherine has also worked as a journalist on BSkyB’s Book Show interviewing the likes of Gore Vidal, Nick Hornby, Michael Crawford, Kate Moss, Margaret Thatcher, Salman Rushdie, and many others.
Back in Australia, Ms Oates Smith gained experience in the not-for-profit sector, working as an Executive Director with Frank Sartor and Lucy Turnbull, led Sydney Cancer Foundation at RPA Hospital. After successfully raising nearly $4 million she was then approached by Divonne Holmes a Court, and helped establish the Smart Population Foundation, which creates mass market communications about the science of parenting.
